In the past

Three years before the present time of this story, his name was Cho Gono and he was in love with a woman named Kanan. However, Kanan was abducted to be taken to Hyakugan Maoh, a powerful demon that likes to toy with beautiful women and then eat them when he grows bored with them. Gono went berserk and went on a murderous killing spree, slaughtering all kinds of demons even remotely related to the abduction. He finally finds Kanan, but she takes his dagger and kills herself after revealing to him that Hyakugan Maoh’s child is already growing inside of her. By this time, Gono has become a demon, because he has killed over 1000 demons.  He was then banished from his town for going on that killing spree.

Present time

A full demon that needs demon power limiters (his ear cuffs). He is the most mature character in the group, always acting as the peacemaker, saying, “Now, now,” to everyone else. He is also smart and analytical. He generally remains calm and tends to make the more ironic comments. His powers, as a limited demon, lie in Qigong techniques. He has a dragon named Hakuryu, who can transform into a jeep. Hakkai is always the driver. He drinks, but does not smoke.  Usually when they go out to eat, Hakkai also always ends up getting stuck with the bill and it is quite a lot of money becuase of Goku(since as you see he LOVES to east).
